Affenpinscher

Smallest of the pinschers and schnauzers, the Affenpinscher
can be traced back as far as the seventeenth century in Germany,
known as the dog that makes people laugh. This wiry-haired
terrier breed, with its intelligence and great demeanor, have
become known as a great house pet. The German's gave this
breed its name because of its comical face, for "monkey-like
terrier." In France this breed was described as the
"diablotin moustachu" or the "moustached little devil."
The Affenpinscher is appealing because of naturally scruffy,
its extreme intelligence and its affection towards people.
With ears that can be erect, semi-erect, dropped, or cropped
erect and a skull that is round and domed, the Affenpinscher
carries his head with confidence and pride. Their tails
are naturally long and curve over the back, but can be docked or
carried erect. While they are fun-loving and playful, they
can also be active, adventurous, curious, and hardheaded.
Their heights range from 9 to 11 inches, with their weight
between 7-10 lbs. Coat color is normally black, but can be
gray, sliver, red, black or tan; coat is usually rough, think,
and dense. The coat needs brushing two or three times a
week, along with ear, tooth, and nail care weekly. They
don't need much exercise, just a nice back yard to play in.
The Affenpinscher's bones are very fine, so special care should
be taken into consideration.
